This was one of my favorites from the exhibition. Unfortunately this photo loses some of the vibrancy of the original. There are magentas, purples and yellows that aren’t quite making the same impact here. Also the sky is this thick, super glossy teal that is echoed down in some of the leaves. It’s quite stunning in person.
Fantastic multi-canvas painting of the woods near his home. He went back repeatedly in order to observe the same space on several different days throughout the year. His technique on the leaves here remind me of Matisse’s Tea in the Garden down at LACMA.
